Stay Focused

Stay Focused: Sports Massage

Stay Focused was opened because people living an active and strenuous lifestyle need a massage therapist that is qualified and confident in treating them. My goal is for those athletes, that are in chronic or acute pain from the activities they partake in, is to experience the relief that lasts. Even if you are a rookie or a seasoned veteran, I want to get you back in the game as soon as possible.

About your sports massage therapist: Anne Denton

Why did I become a sports massage therapist?

I grew up chasing after my three older brothers, so I grew fond of playing sports. I began ballet, tap, and jazz at the age of 3. I also played basketball, soccer, baseball, and ice hockey. All this gave me a solid understanding of what athletes go through both on and off the field, all which helps me treat clients. There's nothing an athlete hates more than being told they can't play. My goal is to get you back on the court and keep you there.

What I like most about my job as a sports massage therapist is that I get to help people. I know what it’s like to be in considerable pain when even the most basic movement feels like a Cirque du Soleil contortion. I know what it’s like to be scared that your body is never going to feel ‘normal’ or you won’t be pain-free again. And, I know what it’s like to get a massage and feel like the person didn’t listen to a word you said or didn’t have a clue how to help. It’s not fun: it’s depressing and scary. It’s my pleasure to make sure that never happens to you!

How did I become a sports massage therapist?

I received my massage certification at Josef's School of Hair Design: Massage Program in July 2009. I have received numerous continuing education units over the years to expand my knowledge in the field and stay on top of my game, including certification in KinesioTaping and training in Active Isolated Stretching. In 2014, I decided it was time to open my own massage business and began working with the Colorado Mammoth. In the 2017 season, I was rewarded with becoming their full-time massage therapist. At the end of the 2022 season I resigned from the Colorado Mammoth and took over as the massage therapist for the Colorado Ballet.

I chose the name Stay Focused because athletes are always trying to focus on their individual game, how to get to (and stay at) top performance in nutrition, sports psychology, and training in the off-season to put themselves in the best position to win. That’s enough to worry about – so, let me do the rest. I’m here to help take care of the body aspect, so you can stay focused on the next shift, next play, and next game.

What's next for me as a sports massage therapist? Only time will tell.

My massage (with cupping added) was AMAZING. I had a recent back injury and lots of angry muscles and came out feeling amazing immediately afterwards with also seeing drastic improvements the days following. Anne was extremely professional and helpful, the massage was a perfect balance of relaxation and deep pressure.
